"How old are you" is usually translated as “你多大了”, I want to make sure whether it is a proper expression when inquire about someone’s age? Is there any difference between "你多大" and "你几岁"?

To ask for someone’s age, you should use different patterns for different age ranges. Please try to be polite when you ask an older person.
- For people who are younger than you or about the same age, you can use both 你今年多大了?and 你今年几岁?
- For people older than you, it’s better to say 您今年多大岁数?or 您今年多大年纪?
